Breeding · How it works

Stand a stallion or book a season — both sides covered.

Two flows: stud owners offering a stallion, and mare owners booking one. Escrow on the standing fee. Live foal guarantees honoured automatically when the stud offers one.

How to stand a stallion at Hoofine

  1. 1

    Profile your stallion

Use the listing wizard with the 'Offer at stud' branch on. Add pedigree, performance record, notable get, semen options (live cover / fresh / frozen / ICSI) and your standing fee per season.

  2. 2

    Get verified

Stud verification reviews registry papers, performance record and — for international shipping — semen evaluation paperwork. Verified studs rank higher in the directory.

  3. 3

    Receive booking enquiries

Mare owners send a booking enquiry through your profile with their mare's details. You see it in your dashboard. Approve, decline or follow up over Hoofine messaging — phone numbers and emails stay masked until the booking is confirmed.

  4. 4

    Confirm the booking

Approve a booking and escrow opens for the standing fee. Hoofine holds the funds — you don't chase the mare owner for payment, and they don't wire money to a stranger.

  5. 5

    Coordinate logistics

Handle shipping schedules, dose timing and vet coordination over Hoofine messaging. Mark milestones (covered / shipped / pregnancy confirmed) so both sides see one timeline.

  6. 6

    Get paid on milestone

Funds release on the terms you set: confirmed pregnancy, live foal, or per session for fresh-cover. Live foal guarantees are honoured automatically — the system holds funds until the milestone is met.

How to book a stallion on Hoofine

  1. 1

    Browse the stallion directory

Filter by breed, discipline, semen options (frozen / ICSI), live foal guarantee and standing-fee range. Each profile shows pedigree, notable get and the stud's terms in one place.

  2. 2

    Review the stud's terms

Live foal guarantee, repeat-breeding rights, frozen semen handling, ICSI logistics, payout schedule. The terms sit on the profile — no surprises after you book.

  3. 3

    Send a booking enquiry

Tell the stud about your mare: name, breed, age, foaling history, vet status. The enquiry goes through Hoofine — your contact details stay private until the booking is confirmed.

  4. 4

    Confirm and fund escrow

Once the stud approves, the standing fee goes into Hoofine Escrow. Your card is charged but the money sits with us, not the stud, until the agreed milestone is reached.

  5. 5

    Live foal guarantee, when offered

Where the stud offers a guarantee, escrow holds the fee until its terms are met — typically a confirmed live foal that stands and nurses. If a refund or rebreed triggers, the funds move without you chasing anyone.

  6. 6

    Get the breeding done

Coordinate logistics over Hoofine messaging. Track milestones in your dashboard. Pay only when the terms you agreed are met.

FAQ

Common questions

Who pays the platform fee?

The mare owner does, on top of the stud's standing fee, the moment escrow opens. Studs receive their standing fee with nothing taken on the Hoofine side — Stripe network fees apply as usual.

What if the live foal guarantee fails?

If the stud offers a guarantee and it isn't met within the agreed window, escrow refunds the standing fee to the mare owner, minus any portion the terms mark non-refundable (e.g. a booking deposit). Our trust team reviews any contested outcome.

Can the stud and mare owner contact each other directly?

Yes, once the booking is confirmed. Before that, Hoofine messaging masks phone numbers, emails and off-platform contact attempts to protect both sides. Commit to a booking and full contact details unlock for shipping.

Frozen semen and ICSI?

Both supported. The stud declares which options are available; the mare owner picks one when sending the enquiry. Logistics — clinic addresses, courier handover, customs paperwork — are handled over Hoofine messaging.

What about insurance?

Hoofine doesn't underwrite breeding insurance. Studs and mare owners arrange their own mortality, shipment and live-foal cover. Where the stud requires proof of mare insurance, that shows up in their terms.

Buying or selling a horse?

The marketplace runs on the same trust rules.

Identity-verified sellers, escrow on every transaction, a 48-hour inspection window. The marketplace playbook covers buyer and seller flows end to end.
